Actors Wanted !
Two male actors, age 30 plus, are wanted for a rehearsed playreading that will take place early in 2009.  Both are to play a policeman, one a larger role than the other, but both are very important to the play.  Enthusiasm rather than experience important. If you are interested, contact Andy: prideincanterbury@tiscali.co.uk for further information.

Gay Friendly Bars

Sundowners
This membership club at 1 Albert Terrace, Margate, overlooks the beach, has plenty of room and is a friendly bar, with loads happening throughout the week.  We were very pleased with the support that they gave to the two Canterbury Gay Pride days and without them, there would have been no Thanet Pride this year and they have several activities lined up in the run up to Christmas and the New Year. So if your are not a regular, look them up now
New Bars
We have been told that two new bars have opened in SE Kent.
"The Kingfisher", London Road and Cherry Tree Avenue Dover apparently has a sign saying "Dover's only gay pub".
( We have had an email from a visitor to the Kingfisher with the comments 'very impressed, excellent atmosphere, brilliant staff, really busy')

(Sadly, we have learned that the bar below has already closed -the old,old story.)
"The Brewery Tap", Tontine St, Folkestone
We wish the Kingfisher continuing success.
Spread the word about new bars, check them out and let us know what you think.

The Star and Garter, Bromley
There is obviously very good work being done in Bromley on behalf of the LGBT community, by the NHS and others.  We are envious of  the activities in the area.  ( There is a Bromley LGBT Community News published regularly.)
We are always happy and eager to support and promote new ventures, which aim to bring the LGBT community together, throughout Kent, so having spent some enjoyable evenings at the Crown and Anchor before it closed we decided to visit Bromley's new gay bar, "The Star & Garter".
Unfortunately, we were not impressed.  This is a dark and dingy, unwelcoming barn of a building.  The "entertainment" the evening we visited was Karaoke - customers screeching and shouting into the microphone, with the volume inexplicably turned up high.
We spent less than 20 minutes in the bar and have no plans to return.
This is not the way to attract a wider clientele - certainly not the maturer and more discerning members of the LGBT comunity, who, like the young, need to be provided for to attract them back onto the scene.
We appreciate the difficulties of starting up a new venue and hope that those running it will work  successfully to attract a large and varied clientele to their bar.
